Its unique “split” mounting ears makes it an upgrade for only a few early Fords. This is a Direct Replacement.

Being the same physical size as the early stock Ford units this is a very popular replacement where increased capacity is needed.  For highly (electrically) modified cars - this unit will double the charging capacity at all RPM Ranges with virtually no modifications
